Monday was the beginning of a 45ish day unit on Multiplication and Division. Your kiddos were introduced to very basic multiplication and division in second grade so they are coming into third grade with a little bit of exposure. As you have noticed, I have began sending workbook pages as homework instead of the weekly math homework. I'm doing this to help keep parent's up to date with what we are learning in class and hopefully that bridges the gaps between school and home. I'm going to take a survey at the end of the semester to see which parents like better so look for that in December.
Over the next few weeks I will post a couple different things on the blog that will have to do with multiplication and division. It should service as either a refresher or an update to how these concepts and skills are being taught today. At the bottom of this email I will post both our anchor chart along with a youtube video I found that may help introduce our beginning strategies to you. You can skip to minute 2 and see the important stuff. Let me know if you have any questions.

Below is an example of the strategies the kids will be working on during class. They do need to be able to recognize and answer questions using any of these strategies.
The second picture is an example of an old STAAR question. This is our ending point. This may actually be an "easier" question on the STAAR since they are just recognizing and not solving. You can find all STAAR released questions on the TEA website or by googling STAAR RELEASED TESTS.
